Presidents of Kurdistan Region and Iran emphasize boosting bilateral relations

SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region – Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani held meetings on Monday with Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Ebrahim Raisi during his official visit to Tehran.

As per a statement from the KRI Presidency, the meeting, which included an accompanying delegation, centered on enhancing bilateral relations between the two neighboring parties based on shared interests and bolstering trade and economic ties.

“In another agenda of the meeting, they emphasized the necessity and significance of ongoing coordination and cooperation between the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq, and the Kurdistan Region to uphold peace and stability in the region,” reads the statement.

According to Iraqi media reports, President Barzani’s visit aims to persuade Iran to encourage the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) to delay the parliamentary elections. This issue has sparked controversy among internal political parties in the Region for several months.
