Baghdad, Iraq — Amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel, Iraq’s National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji on Saturday reaffirmed Baghdad’s firm rejection of using Iraqi territory as a launchpad for attacks against neighboring countries, especially Iran, during a meeting with Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Kazem Al Sadeq in Baghdad.
According to a statement from Al-Araji’s media office, the two sides reviewed recent developments and the escalating situation in the region, highlighting the risks associated with the ongoing tensions.
Al-Araji reiterated Iraq’s clear stance against the dangerous escalation, stressing, “Iraq rejects being used as a launchpad for aggression against neighboring countries, especially the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
Iraqi National Security Advisor also stressed the urgent need for de-escalation to safeguard the security and stability of the region’s countries and peoples.
Prior to the meeting, Iraq’s Crisis Assessment Cell within the National Security Advisory Council, chaired by Al-Araji, convened to evaluate the political and security landscape amid the ongoing Iran-Israel conflict and regional threats, reviewing potential scenarios, risk mitigation strategies, and Iraq’s preparedness, including relevant policies and contingency plans.
