Sulaimani blacksmiths keep tradition alive

SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — Sulaimani’s blacksmith market, located in the heart of the city, continues to showcase hot and cold metalsmith crafts and attract tourists.

Among the city’s cultural and economic landmarks, the market is of great importance. It is a major tourist attraction that attracts both locals and visitors.

From traditional knives to ornate souvenirs, the market displays products that provide ends meet for tens of blacksmiths and metalworkers for decades.

In the market, Luqman Haji Hassan is the owner of a shop. In an interview with Zoom News, he said he inherited the business from his forefathers 40 years ago.

Since imports from neighbouring countries have hampered the market, local products are still on display.
