SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani has welcomed the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)’s decision to disarm and support the call of its imprisoned leader, Abdullah Ocalan, describing the move as a crucial turning point for peace in the region.
In a statement, Barzani said the decision marks the beginning of a new chapter characterized by political maturity, dialogue, and regional stability.
“This will foster a conducive environment for lasting and comprehensive peace, bringing an end to decades of violence and suffering, while advancing the region toward greater development,” Barzani said.
Barzani also acknowledged the support of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, calling his role vital to the success of this initiative.
The President emphasized that the Kurdistan Region has always supported peaceful solutions and will continue to play a constructive role in succeeding this “historic” opportunity.
