SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region— The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), the ruling party in Sulaimani and Halabja provinces, has initiated the relocation of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups to Surdash Camp in Sulaimani’s Dukan district. This move is part of increasing pressure on these parties, with a convoy set to transfer members and supporters of all three Iranian Kurdish opposition parties to the designated camp on Saturday.
According to two sources within the parties, the special permission previously granted by the PUK to allow the Komala of the Revolutionary Toilers of Iranian Kurdistan, the Komala Kurdistan Organization of the Communist Party of Iran, and the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan to remain at their long-standing headquarters in Zirgwez — 15 kilometers south of Sulaimani — has officially ended. As a result, preparations for their relocation to Surdash Camp are now in motion.
A party source told Zoom News that several trucks arrived early Saturday at the three-party sites, loaded with the belongings of members and supporters, and were awaiting instructions to proceed to the camp.
The relocation follows a recent decision by Sulaimani security forces (Asayish), giving the Eastern Kurdish parties a 10-day deadline to vacate the Zirgwez area and relocate all associated families and affiliates to Surdash Camp.
The move is reportedly being carried out under a tripartite agreement between Iraq, Iran, and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), which requires the disarmament of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups, their removal from border areas, and their containment within government-supervised zones.
