SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region – Sulaimani-based security forces (Asayish) affiliated with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) have ordered Iranian Kurdish opposition parties to evacuate their main headquarters in Zirgwez, 15 kilometers south of Sulaimani, a party source told Zoom News.
The demand, made by Sulaimani’s Asayish, is reportedly based on a tripartite agreement between Iraq, Iran, and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), which requires the groups to relocate away from the Iranian border.
Under the deal, the opposition parties had already transferred some families to the Surdash camp in Dukan district, but the source criticized the site’s lack of basic services. “They promised to provide necessities, but the camp is not livable,” the source said.
The move is part of ongoing efforts by Iran, Iraq, and the KRG to disarm and contain Iranian Kurdish groups within government-supervised areas.
