SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — Syria’s interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa and Mazloum Abdi, General Commander of the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), finalized a historic agreement on Monday aimed at unifying Syria and ensuring national stability. The accord, encompassing key political, military, and social reforms, seeks to integrate all components of Syrian society under a unified national framework.
According to a statement from the Syrian Presidency, an executive committee has been appointed to oversee the full implementation of the eight-term agreement by the end of 2025.
The agreement includes the following provisions:
– All Syrians are guaranteed equal representation and participation in governance, with state institutions operating on a merit-based system, irrespective of religious or ethnic background.
– The Kurdish community is officially recognized as an integral part of Syria, with guarantees of full citizenship and constitutional rights.
– A ceasefire will be implemented across Syrian territory to halt hostilities and promote lasting peace.
– Civilian and military institutions in northeastern Syria will be integrated into the Syrian state, including management of border crossings, airports, and natural resources.
– The government will ensure the safe and protected return of displaced Syrians to their hometowns, addressing a critical humanitarian issue.
– The agreement reaffirms support for the Syrian government in combating remnants of Assad’s regime and other security threats.
– All attempts to incite division or hate speech among Syria’s diverse communities will be strongly opposed to preserve national unity.
– Executive Committees will monitor the implementation of all terms, ensuring compliance by the end of the year.
The agreement comes after recent clashes between the Syrian security forces and the armed men of the Bashar al-Assad loyalists that resulted in more than a thousand civilian deaths amongst Alawite civilians.
It marks a significant step toward national reconciliation and stabilization in Syria, as both parties commit to fostering unity and building a stable future for a new Syria.
