DUHOK, Kurdistan Region — The People’s Front list, led by Lahur Sheikh Jangi, has officially unveiled its candidates for the upcoming Kurdistan parliamentary elections in Duhok province and Badinan area. Under the slogan “We Can Do It” and representing list number 169, the party aims to implement significant reforms in the governance of the Kurdistan Region, focusing on key issues and promoting positive change.
At the candidates’ unveiling ceremony, Jangi emphasized that the Duhok and Badinan areas are “strategic and important” for the Kurdistan Region, noting that despite the province’s abundant revenues, it still ranks among the poorest provinces in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, He asserted that this disparity should invoke a sense of shame and accountability among the local authorities.
During the ceremony, Jangi claimed that the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) is a party of “minimal power” that should not receive support from the Badinan area, which the KDP considers merely a reservoir for votes. He urged citizens to take charge of their voting rights, underscoring the vital importance of valuing their votes to end the ‘exploitation of power” and the “restriction of freedoms” imposed by the KDP in the province.
“The KDP has maintained its rule over the Kurdistan Region for many years due to the votes and support from this area. Without that backing, the KDP would merely be a small party,” stated Jangi.
He also criticized the KDP and PUK for their stance on the Turkish incursion in the province, asserting that Turkey operates freely in the region and is approaching full military control, reiterating the People’s Front party’s strong opposition to the invasion.
“We strongly condemn the Turkish incursion into the Kurdistan Region and simultaneously denounce the ruling party’s silence, which undermines our position and reflects their cowardice in response to the Turkish occupation,” Jangi added.
Speaking about the media rifts between the KDP and PUK, Jangi described them as mere drama and a fabricated scenario, urging the public not to deceived by the narratives being presented. He confirmed that any disparity between the two ruling parties would revolve around the exploitation of the region’s resources and revenues.
“They do not possess any genuine differences; rather, they engage in competition characterized by corruption, mismanagement, and acting as proxies for neighboring countries,” Jangi asserted.
Encouraging active participation in the upcoming elections, Jangi urged attendees to go to the polling stations and use their votes to hold corrupt leaders accountable and punish the three-decade-long corrupt ruling parties. He emphasized that both the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) fear the strength of the people’s votes, highlighting the importance of recognizing the power of their own vote.
Looking forward, he declared that if the People’s Front secures victory in the upcoming elections, it would negotiate a robust agreement with Baghdad. He concluded with a resolute message: “We will no longer tolerate the theft of your votes, will, determination, resources, and cities.”
The sixth round of the Kurdistan Region’s parliamentary elections is scheduled for October 20, and political parties are ramping up their election campaigns as the date approaches.
