SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — A Turkish drone strike has hit a position of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Makhmour Refugee Camp, located 60 kilometers southwest of Erbil, killing one person and injuring two others, including a senior PKK official, according to the Kurdistan Region’s Erbil-based Counterterrorism Unit (CT).
The strike occurred at 9:45 a.m. local time, the CT reported in a statement.
Ghazi Faisal, a commander of the volunteer Peshmerga, confirmed to Zoom News that the drone targeted the camp, which shelters over 12,000 Kurdish refugees from southeast Turkey, displaced during Turkey’s conflict with the PKK.
This incident follows a similar Turkish drone strike on September 10 that also claimed one life and left two injured in the same camp.
