SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — A car explosion in Sulaimani has injured two people, according to a statement from the Kurdistan Region Security Agency.
The explosion occurred at around 11:30 AM local time in the Qularaisy neighborhood, near the Miran City residential project.
A source from the Sulaimani Health Department confirmed to Zoom News that two individuals were transported to the hospital, with one in critical condition.
The cause of the explosion remains unknown, but the Security Agency stated that investigations are ongoing.
Zoom News correspondent Horg Halgurd, reporting from the scene, confirmed that a significant number of security forces have been deployed to the area, restricting media coverage.
Sulaimani province has experienced multiple attacks from Turkish drones targeting members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
Tara Hussein, spokeswoman for the Kurdistan Freedom Movement, a PKK-affiliated political party in the Kurdistan Region, informed Zoom News that no members of their party were in the vehicle.
This explosion comes amid heightened tensions, as Turkey has suspended flights from Sulaimani International Airport since last year and has recently threatened to conduct attacks on the airport if it is found to be supporting the PKK.
