Anti-ISIS Coalition calls for immediate ceasefire in Deir ez-Zor region

SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region – The Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) has issued a stark call for an immediate end to the ongoing clashes in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor region. In a statement, it states that the sustained violence in the area has led to tragic and avoidable loss of life, resulting in severe destabilization.

CJTF-OIR stresses the crucial necessity for all local leaders “to resist the influence of malign actors” who make enticing promises but ultimately bring only suffering to the region’s people, adding the consequences of this continued conflict are dire and may inadvertently lead to the resurgence of a common adversary – ISIS.

While reaffirming their unwavering support for the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), CJTF-OIR passionately implores all involved forces to cease hostilities promptly and seek a peaceful resolution, emphasizing the importance of shifting the focus back to the shared objective – the enduring defeat of ISIS.

The Deir ez-Zor region of Syria has been gripped by a week-long of intense violence, pitting the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) against Arab tribal fighters, leading to the loss of 45 lives. In a bid to quell the escalating crisis, local authorities have implemented a 48-hour curfew, which came into effect on Saturday morning.
