SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — A bizarre and troubling case has emerged in Iraq’s Babylon province, where a child underwent an unexpected surgery. The family had taken the child to a local hospital for a routine tonsillectomy, but instead, two testicles were removed without the family’s prior knowledge or consent.
The father, deeply alarmed by the procedure, described it as a serious threat to his child’s well-being. He revealed to Zoom News that, in response, the doctor’s lawyer issued a formal written warning, threatening a defamation lawsuit if the case was made public
Zoom News has withheld the identity of the child’s father for privacy reasons. The family resides in Al-Iskandariya (Alexandria), in central Iraq’s Babylon province.
According to the father, the operation took place around five weeks ago. Although initially scheduled as a simple tonsillectomy, the family later discovered that the surgeon had performed an entirely different, unapproved procedure. This revelation has led the father to pursue legal action, seeking to determine whether this incident constitutes medical malpractice or even a criminal act and organized crime.
The father reiterated that the hospital has acknowledged the case, confirming that his son’s testicles were removed. However, they expressed uncertainty over whether this was a case of medical malpractice or if one of the doctors involved may have had connections to criminal gangs involved in trafficking human body parts.
The father has provided Zoom News with all related documentation and evidence. He claims that the surgeon’s lawyer warned him not to disclose the case to the media, threatening legal consequences. The father told Zoom News that he is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow to learn the verdict, stating, “I don’t want my child’s situation to go unnoticed.”
Neither the Iraqi Ministry of Health nor the General Directorate of Health in Babylon Province has provided a comment on the case so far.
