SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — At least 52 Kurdish citizens were executed by the Iranian regime in 2022, according to the final report of human rights violations by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights.
Hengaw reported 52 Kurds executed in Iran, 2,212 arrests, 155 of whom were sentenced to death, imprisoned and beaten up by the security forces, based on the figures the NGO gathered.

Additionally, 46 Kolbars were killed and 244 injured when Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) border guards shot them on the border with the Kurdistan Region.
The Kurdish word Kolbar refers to cross-border laborers who are mostly Kurds employed on the Iraq-Iran border to transport goods legally or illegally. The occupation provides them with a means of surviving.
In addition, 128 civilians were killed by the direct fire of government forces, and more than 3,000 people suffered injuries.
The large number of Kurdish civilians killed in September is largely due to the government’s violent response to protests against the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurd who was killed under the custody of the ‘Morality Police’ in September.
“At least 37 citizens were killed or injured along Kurdistan’s borders in 2022 because of the explosion of landmines and explosives left over from the Iran-Iraq war,” the report added.
The report mentions that “actual numbers could be considerably higher,” because the figures provided are from Hengaw Organization alone.
