SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — Six people were killed on Monday in two separate drone strikes by the Turkish military in the Kurdistan Region, according to Kamaran Osman from the Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT).
The first strike took place around 11:30 AM Erbil time, when Turkish airstrikes targeted a village in Duhok’s Akre district, killing a married couple who were visiting their farmland in Shahe village. The victims were identified as Jaafar Jalal, 58, and his wife Tine Mohammed, 48.
In the second strike, which occurred around 3:20 PM local time, a Turkish drone targeted a vehicle in Ranya district, Sulaimani’s Raparin Administration. The attack killed four people and injured a nearby motorbike rider. Darw Qadir, spokesperson for Ranya police, and Osman confirmed the details.
“Two of the victims were women, while the other two were men. Their identities remain unknown,” Osman said in a post on his Facebook wall.
Osman further reported that, in connection with the first attack, Turkish airstrikes this year have killed two civilians and injured two others, all in Duhok province.
He also revealed that, since 1991, Turkish military operations in the Kurdistan Region have resulted in the deaths of 353 civilians and injuries to 367 others.
The ongoing conflict between the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and Turkish forces in the border areas of the Kurdistan Region has led to frequent civilian casualties, particularly among farmers working in their fields and gardens.
