SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region – The administration of al-Hol camp in Syria’s Hasakah province is finalizing arrangements to repatriate a new group of displaced Iraqi families to Al-Jadaa camp in Iraq. This initiative is part of an agreement between the Iraqi government and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).
The move aims to alleviate pressure on al-Hol, one of the largest camps housing displaced people from various nationalities, including significant numbers of Iraqis, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
This year, it marks the fifth such repatriation effort targeting Iraqi families, many of whom are connected to former ISIS-controlled territories.
On October 9, 175 Iraqi families, totaling 750 individuals, were transferred from al-Hol to Al-Jadaa camp in Mosul. Preparations for the upcoming batch are underway, alongside measures by the Rojava Internal Security Forces to secure the camp and close market areas frequented by these families.
The initiative underscores ongoing efforts to address the humanitarian and security challenges posed by displacement and to facilitate reintegration processes.
