SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — The Iraqi Ministry of Education has initiated a project to install solar energy systems in schools across Baghdad, starting with 300 primary and secondary schools in the Rusafa district.
Falah Qaisi, director general of Rusafa Education, announced the initiative in an interview with semi-official al-Sabah newspaper, highlighting its potential to improve energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
The project, part of a Central Bank initiative, aims to provide uninterrupted electricity, reduce generator noise, and lower pollution levels.
Technical teams have already begun installations. If the initial phase succeeds, the program will expand to other districts in the project’s second phase.
A private company has been contracted to oversee the installations and will manage the system for 25 years, assuming full responsibility for its maintenance and operation.
