SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — The Kurdistan Region’s population comprises 14% of Iraq’s total, with 6,370,668 residents, according to Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Planning Minister Dara Rashid, citing results from the recent nationwide census.
Iraq’s total population now stands at 45.4 million, announced Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani on Monday. Males represent 50.1% of the population, while females account for 49.8%.
The census recorded 7,898,558 families across Iraq, with 70% residing in urban areas and 30% in rural locations. The average family size is 5.3 members, and 88.67% of households are led by men, compared to 11.33% by women.
Children under 15 make up 36.1% of Iraq’s population, while those aged 15 to 64 account for 60.2%. Seniors over 65 represent just 3.7%. Housing data reveals over eight million residential units, with 93.1% living in houses, 6.6% in apartments, and 4% in sod homes.
Iraq’s average annual population growth is 2.3%.
The census, conducted on November 20-21, included all regions of Iraq, including Kurdistan. A nationwide curfew was enforced to facilitate the process.
