SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — Water contamination has hospitalized over 2,800 people in Sharazoor district over the past four days, with health officials warning that the number of cases continues to rise.
Saman Sabir, the emergency director at Shahid Rauf Beg General Hospital, reported that more than 3,500 residents have experienced symptoms like diarrhea and vomiting, with over 2,800 seeking medical care at the hospital. Many received initial treatment and were discharged, while others continue to arrive.
Authorities attribute the outbreak to the contamination of drinking water with sewage. Despite the high number of cases, Shahid Rauf Beg Hospital stated that the condition is manageable, with patients stabilizing quickly after initial treatment.
