SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — At the final rally before the Kurdistan parliamentary elections, Lahur Sheikh Jangi, leader of the People’s Front, made a passionate appeal to his supporters in Sulaimani, urging them to vote for change and end three decades of rule by the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).
Addressing the crowd, Jangi described Sulaimani as the heart of change and political transformation in the Kurdistan Region, asserting that any party with the support of its people would achieve success.
Jangi condemned the recent killings in Sulaimani linked to security forces under PUK command, vowing accountability for those responsible. He criticized the ruling parties for governing the region with disregard for the rule of law and called on voters to undermine their power by rejecting them at the ballot box.
The People’s Front leader outlined his party’s vision for transformative change in the governance and sectors of the Kurdistan Region. He highlighted a proposed national constitution that prioritizes civil rights, aiming to challenge the entrenched dominance of the current ruling parties.
In a direct appeal to the Peshmerga and security forces, Jangi encouraged them to resist pressure from the KDP and PUK, assuring them of the confidentiality of their votes. He urged them to cast their ballots fearlessly, stating that their livelihoods were no longer tied to the ruling parties’ influence.
Jangi emphasized that while the KDP and PUK view the Kurdistan Region as a resource to exploit, the People’s Front Party considers it a homeland, pledging never to compromise on the Region’s principles and interests.
