SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — The Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council has dissolved Tavgari Azadi, a party affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), along with two Yazidi political parties: the Yazidi Democratic Freedom Party and the Democratic Struggle Front.
The decision, announced on August 1, stated in a decree from the Board of Elections of the Supreme Judicial Council, which cited the parties’ alleged PKK links.
The closure of their headquarters and the confiscation of their financial resources were requested by the Office of Political Parties and Organizations Affairs and based on a complaint from the National Security Council.
The decision is appealable, and once appeals are resolved, the parties’ headquarters will be shut down.
