SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has firmly denied accusations made by the Kurdistan Region’s Security Agency regarding its involvement in a bomb attack on a senior Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) official in Sulaimani’s Garmiyan administration on Monday, according to a statement released by the PKK-affiliated Firat News Agency (ANF).
In a statement issued by the PKK Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday, the party expressed its “clear and unequivocal rejection of this unjust and baseless accusation.”
Early Monday morning, Akram Salih, a top KDP official in Sulaimani’s Garmiyan administration, narrowly survived a bomb attack on his vehicle outside his residence in Kalar.
The following day, the Kurdistan Region’s Security Agency accused the PKK of orchestrating the attack and alleged the group’s involvement in similar assaults and arson incidents across the Region, warning that such actions would not go unanswered.
The KDP, the region’s ruling party, condemned the attack, labeling it a “terrorist act” and calling for a thorough investigation.
However, the PKK claims that the KDP is attempting to defame the party through “propaganda based on lies,” asserting that the Kurdistan Region’s Security Council serves “the security council of the Barzani family.”
The PKK also alleges that the KDP is collaborating with Turkey in its military operations in the Kurdistan Region, describing these actions as part of a “genocidal campaign against the Kurdish people.” Additionally, the PKK accuses the KDP of legitimizing Turkey’s “invasion and annexation” of the Kurdistan Region and utilizing all diplomatic means to further this agenda.
