SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — In the past six months, the Turkish army has conducted 1,076 attacks in the Kurdistan Region, resulting in the deaths of eight civilians, the Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT) announced on Friday.
Kamran Osman, head of the human rights department at CPT, told Zoom News that on Friday night, the Turkish army shelled the village of Guherz in Duhok province’s Amedi district, causing significant damage to civilian property.
The shelling damaged vehicles and houses belonging to three residents of the village, adding to the fear and anxiety of the villagers in Guherz and other villages within the Amedi district.
Recently, Turkish troops have increased their presence in the border areas of Duhok within the Kurdistan Region.

Nizar Mohammed, chieftain of Sargali village in Amedi district, informed Zoom News on Friday that the troops have entered the village and established military outposts nearby. Mohammed described the threats to the villagers’ lives as “extremely high.”
Turkish airstrikes targeting positions of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) have led to the evacuation of tens of villages in the area.
The ongoing clashes and airstrikes have caused fires in vineyards, with locals struggling to extinguish them, leading to the destruction of their primary sources of livelihood.
