SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — Masoud Barzani, leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), arrived in Baghdad on Wednesday, marking his first visit to the Iraqi capital since 2018.
According to a statement from Barzani Headquarters, the visit is focused on holding talks with top Iraqi officials and leaders of various political parties.
Barzani is scheduled to meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani as part of his agenda. Over the course of his two-day visit, he will also engage with leaders from both Shiite and Sunni political factions.
This visit comes at a critical time for the Kurdistan Region, which is preparing for parliamentary elections. The elections have faced multiple delays, with the new date now set for October 20.
Barzani’s return to Baghdad signals a potential shift in political dynamics and underscores the ongoing dialogue between the Kurdistan Region and the central government.
