SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is anticipating a substantial influx of tourists during the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday, starting on Sunday. Ibrahim Abdulwahid, spokesperson for the KRG’s General Board of Tourism, told Zoom News that approximately 300,000 tourists, primarily from various Iraqi provinces, are expected to visit the Kurdistan Region’s numerous tourist destinations.
Abdulwahid highlighted that while a significant number of visitors are expected from within Iraq, tourists from neighboring countries and the Arab Gulf states will account for about 25% of the total. “All preparations have been made in the tourist areas to meet the tourists’ demands,” Abdulwahid assured, indicating the Region’s readiness to accommodate the influx.
Aram Shwani, Sulaimani province’s tourism director, reported that over the past three days, more than 50,000 tourists have already arrived in Sulaimani. He predicted that this number could surpass 150,000 over the next few days of Eid al-Adha.
The Kurdistan Region’s relatively moderate climate compared to other parts of Iraq, along with its stunning tourist attractions and resorts, continues to draw thousands of visitors both domestically and internationally.
