SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani convened with senior Iraqi officials during his official visit to Baghdad on Tuesday.
During his visit, President Barzani convened with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to discuss the current state of affairs in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, according to a statement from the KRI Presidency.
“They addressed various shared concerns and focused on the work program of the Federal Iraqi Government, as well as plans and strategies for promoting economic development in Iraq,” reads the statement.
The meeting also underscored the significance of the ongoing disputes between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government.
“Both sides emphasized the need for continuous communication across all sectors to find sustainable solutions based on the principles outlined in the Constitution and the law.”
In two separate meetings, President Barzani met with the Head of the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council, Chief Justice Fayeq Zedan, and the President of the Federal Supreme Court, Judge Jassim Muhammad Abboud.
In both meetings, discussions revolved around the ongoing political issues in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, covering various areas of concern.
President Barzani’s visit to the Iraqi capital follows his recent trip to Iran, where he held meetings with top Iranian officials.
His visits coincide with the ongoing disputes surrounding the conduct of the Kurdistan Region’s parliamentary elections, which have been postponed multiple times.
Dilshad Shab, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Region Presidency, informed Zoom News that the topic of the elections was not discussed during the meetings in Tehran.
