SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — Dana Gas announced on Monday the temporary suspension of gas production in Khor Mor field following a drone attack on the gas field in Sulaimani’s Chamchamal district last week, as stated in a press release from the UAE-based firm.
The statement attributes the reason for prioritizing the safety of their staff and infrastructure.
“Although there was very minor damage to the facilities, for the safety of all our staff and the facilities, we have temporarily suspended production and instituted specific procedural changes,” reads the statement.
Last Friday, a drone attack struck the field, resulting in the deaths of four Yemeni workers and injuring eight others who were on duty.
Despite the damage inflicted on the field, the attack led to a reduction of 2,500 megawatts of electricity from the Kurdistan Region’s national power grid, according to KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.
The attack garnered condemnation from various international and local entities, including the US, the UK, and top authorities from Iraq and the Region. They called for comprehensive investigations and the prosecution of those responsible.
“We are fully engaged with the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Federal Government of Iraq at the highest levels in supporting their public commitments that the perpetrators will be brought to justice,” states Dana Gas.
The company also indicates that they are actively collaborating with governmental authorities to bolster security and defense measures, enabling the resumption of production at the Khor Mor gas facility “as soon as it is safe to do so.”
