SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in Baghdad on Saturday. They discussed Iraq’s progress in public services and citizen welfare, emphasizing cooperation between the Federal Government and the Region.
They highlighted the need for ongoing dialogue between Erbil and Baghdad and stressed support from all Iraqi political parties, according to a statement from the KRI Presidency.
“Both leaders emphasized the significance of maintaining a constructive dialogue between the Federal Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, underscoring the importance of supporting the government’s endeavors both domestically and internationally,” reads the statement.
Prime Minister al-Sudani thanked President Barzani for his visits, recognizing their importance. President Barzani praised the Prime Minister’s efforts in fostering dialogue for political stability.
President Barzani’s visit comes in the wake of a recent agreement between Baghdad and Erbil that anticipates the allocation of salaries for civil servants in the Kurdistan Region by the federal government.
It also occurs amidst ongoing negotiations between the two parties to recommence oil exports from the Region, which have been suspended for over a year.
