SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — Association of the Petroleum Industry of Kurdistan (APIKUR), which represents international oil production and exportation firms, applauds President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani for their recent focus on restoring oil exports during their meeting at the White House.
In a statement, APIKUR expresses its readiness to swiftly engage in discussions with officials from the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to resume exports via Iraq-Turkey pipeline.
APIKUR asserts that it maintains the integrity of existing fiscal terms while ensuring the certainty of past and future oil payments through formal written agreements.
The Association also emphasizes the importance of the $10 billion investments made by its member companies in the Kurdistan Region’s oil and gas sector.
Myles B. Caggins III, spokesman for APIKUR, affirmed the commitment of member companies to collaborate closely with Iraqi and Kurdish authorities to expedite the resumption of oil exports through the Iraq-Turkey pipeline.
“APIKUR member companies are intensely focused on cooperating with Government of Iraq and Kurdistan Regional Government officials to resume oil exports through the Iraq-Türkiye pipeline as soon as possible.”
The meeting between President Biden and Prime Minister Sudani marks a significant step towards stabilizing the region’s oil and energy sector, with APIKUR eyeing on the meetings to restore the oil exports halted for over a year due an International Arbitration Court ruling.
