SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — The upcoming US-Iraq Higher Coordinating Committee meeting, slated to coincide with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani’s visit to Washington next week, is poised to tackle crucial bilateral issues, Matthew Miller, Department of State Spokesperson, said in a press briefing on Monday.
Miller outlined the core focuses of the meeting, including energy independence, financial reform, services for Iraqis, democracy, and educational and cultural relations.
Representatives from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) will also participate in the meetings, according to Miller, underscoring the comprehensive approach needed for resolving the decade-long issues between Baghdad and Erbil.
“The United States supports a strong, resilient Iraqi Kurdistan Region within a sovereign, stable, and secure federal Iraq,” Miller said.
With the recent agreements reached between the Iraqi government and the KRG, Miller expresses encouragement for both governments to intensify their efforts in resolving longstanding issues, which would result in “economic benefits for all Iraqis.”
