SULAIMANI, Kurdistan Region — In a resolute effort to dismantle the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), United States Central Command (USCENTCOM), alongside coalition and other partners, executed a total of 79 anti-ISIS operations during September and October 2023.
These operations resulted in the elimination of 13 ISIS operatives and the capture of 78 others, including high-profile leaders and members involved in nefarious plots.
For September, 31 operations led to the demise of 8 ISIS operatives, with 19 others apprehended. In October, an additional 48 operations resulted in the death of 5 ISIS operatives and the detention of 59 more.

The focus on Iraq and Syria was evident, with 53 partnered operations in Iraq leading to the death of 10 ISIS operatives and the detention of 33, while in Syria, 23 partnered operations and three U.S.-only operations resulted in three ISIS operatives killed and 45 detained.
Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla, USCENTCOM commander, reaffirmed the commitment to the lasting defeat of ISIS, emphasizing the necessity of sustained military efforts to prevent attacks and curb any attempts at a resurgence.
The operations underscore the ongoing dedication of the U.S. and its allies to eradicate the ISIS threat and ensure the regional and global security.
